Newark, NJ----Opening their conference slate at home on Wednesday against John Jay, the Brooklyn College softball team returned to non-conference play on the road at Rutgers-Newark on Sunday. BC would fall to the Scarlet Raiders in the scheduled doubleheader, 4-0 in Game 1, and closed out the day with an 8-0 (5 Innings) loss in Game 2. Brooklyn moves to 8-13 overall with after the twin bill while Rutgers-Newark improved to 10-14. Next Up: Brooklyn returns home on Wednesday for another non-conference doubleheader against St. Joseph's Brooklyn beginning at 4pm.

Brooklyn starting pitcher,
Danielle Guzzardi, pitched six solid innings in the circle, yielding five Scarlet Raider hits, and was charged with just one run. Three Bulldog errors proved to be costly in the later innings of the game.
Melanie Millan got on-base in the top of the first inning with a two-single. However, was stranded to end the inning.
Vida Rodriguez led off the second inning with a single, but was eventually thrown out on a double-play.
The home team broke the 0-0 stalemate in the bottom of the fifth inning on a 2-RBI single with two outs. Brooklyn looked to respond in the top of the sixth inning as
Paige Alaia-Palacios led it off with a single. Next batter,
Molly Martin, also singled and tried to take second, but RUN made the defensive plays needed to throw both her and Alaaia-Palacios out while attempting to put themselves in scoring position. The Scarlet Raiders tacked on a pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth on three hits and a pair of Brooklyn errors.
Rodriguez was 2-3 with a double.
Game 2 | BC- 0, RUN- 8 (5 Innings)
Rutgers-Newark got on the board first in the bottom of the first inning on a two-out RBI single. BC had a pair of base-runners in the top of the second inning with Rodriguez and
Zoey Van Vleet both hitting singles. The Scarlet Raiders added a run in the bottom of the second inning.
The home team scored three more runs in the bottom of the third inning with the rally including a 2-RBI single. RUN closed out the game in the fifth inning that ended with an RBI single.
Brooklyn pitcher,
Molly Martin, moved to 2-5 with the loss, throwing all five innings. Rodriguez was 1-1 and walked.
