BC Softball Comes Back Home for Non-Conference Doubleheader Against St. Joseph's-Brooklyn

Bulldogs Losing Streak Extends to Six

BROOKLYN, New York ------ Returning home to play a non-conference opponent, the Brooklyn College softball team found themselves facing the St. Joseph's University-Brooklyn Bears in a doubleheader. The Bulldogs would stay within striking distance in both games, but would lose both games by scores of 13-0 and 8-2 respectively.

The Brooklyn College Bulldogs (8-15) continue to try and break their skid that has now reached six games, while the St. Joseph's University-Brooklyn (13-7) improve their record, winning six of their last eight games.

Game 1

The Bulldogs would stay within striking distance despite going down 4-0 after two innings, but despite two scoreless innings, they could not cut into the lead. The Bears would go into the fifth inning unleashing a barrage of runs, scoring nine total runs in the inning to end the first game by a score of 13-0 after just five innings.

Despite the lack of runs, Brooklyn would find other ways to get on base, fighting for 5 walks ias a team.

Melanie Milan would hit 1-for-3 in the game, and Ashley Konner would go a perfect 1-for-1, providing the only two hits for Brooklyn.

Game 2

The second game would start of similarly with the Bears going up 4-0, only this time it was all in the first inning. However, the Bulldogs would cut the lead in the second inning. 

With the bases loaded, Aaliyah Vargas would ground out to third, but would sacrifice herself to move all runners up a base, bringing in the first run of the day to make it 4-1.

Sage Bernsetein would get some action in the second game, grounding out to the pitcher on a sacrifice bunt to bring in the second run for Brooklyn to make it 4-2. 

Unfortunately, the Bears would tack on three more runs in the top of the third inning and another in the seventh to go the full seven innings and take it 8-2.

Paige Alaia-Palacios would hit a solid 2-for-4 in the leadoff spot, being one of five Bulldogs to get a hit on the night.

Up next, the Brooklyn College softball team returns to conference play against the York College Cardinals on Friday, April 11th, with the doubleheader starting at 3pm.
