Throggs Neck, NY----Despite scoring the first goal of the match, Brooklyn College women's dropped their season opener on Friday, 4-2, at SUNY Maritime. Brooklyn goes to 0-1 to start the season while the Privateers improve to 1-0 with the non-conference win on their home turf. Brooklyn will look to bounce back on Wednesday, September 3, as the Bulldogs host their home opener against St. Elizabeth at 4pm.
The Bulldogs took a 1-0 lead in 15' as
Imani Dickens broke free from a defender and beat the keeper to the lower right of the goal. She was assisted by sophomore midfielder,
Audrey Jane Young. However, Maritime tied the match, 1-1, just thirteen seconds later. The match would remain tied by halftime, 1-1.
BC junior back,
Julianna Elkins, broke the tie in 49' by knocking one in from the center of the box on an assist from Dickens who finished with three points on the evening. Maritime responded with three unanswered goals beginning with the equalizer in 59' and the game-winner in 72'. Both goals were scored by Eva Garcia who completed a hat-trick after scoring Maritime's first goal of the match.
The Bulldogs finished with a 10-9 edge in shots-on-goal while the Privateers out-shot BC for the match, 19-16.
