BC Women's Soccer Triumphs In Home Opener Over Saint Elizabeth 2-0

Bulldogs Succeed In First Home Game

BROOKLYN, New York ----- Coming into the first home game of the season, the Brooklyn College women's soccer team looked to bounce back against the Saint Elizabeth University Eagles after a hard fought game on the road against Maritime College. Taking control of the ball possession for most of the game, the Bulldogs were able to pull off a 2-0 victory in front of the home crowd to start off on the right foot after a strong first half.

With the victory, the Brooklyn College Bulldogs (1-1) start off undefeated at home, while the Saint Elizabeth University Eagles (0-1) take a tough loss on the road.

Brooklyn would put the pedal to the metal, but would be caught offsides four times in the process. Eventually, after a blocked shot and the first shot on goal by Alyssa Hardison, Brooklyn would finally break through on offense after a beautiful sent ball by Chelsea Gonzalez to find Audrey Jane Young to put it away with a kick from the left side into the opposite side of the net for the 1-0 lead in 24'.

Even with the continuous offside calls, it showed the urgency of the Bulldogs to not take the foot off the gas, continuing to attack as much as possible. After three more were called, the Bulldogs would score on a counterattack, this time from the right side, as Young would find Imani Dickens for the 2-0 score in 36'.

Brooklyn would hold on to their lead and continue to attack, as Dickens would shoot a shot at the bottom center of the net that forced Saint Elizabeth's goalkeeper to block it with her body at 62'. She would end the game with 1 goal on 3 shots with 2 of them on target.

Young would have one more try to solidify her performance for the day, but the Eagles' goalie would dive to stop it from going in the bottom right corner in 78'. She would end the day with 1 assist, 1 goal on 4 shots with 2 on target.

The Bulldogs had a solid outing, putting up 14 shots with 6 on target, keeping control of the possession to give both their goalies an easier day.

Up next, the Brooklyn College women's soccer team will travel on the road once again to Phoenixville, Pennsylvania to take on the University of Valley Forge Patriots on Saturday, September 6th at 1:00pm.
