BROOKLYN, New York ------ Coming into their second game at home, the Brooklyn College men's soccer team looked to extend their recent success at home. They also sought to make it two in a row against their opponents: the St. Joseph's University-Brooklyn Bears. The Bulldogs would do so almost identically to their previous victory at home, taking down St. Joseph's-Brooklyn Bears in convincing fashion by a score of 3-0. The Brooklyn College Bulldogs (2-2-0) win their second game in a row overall and at home, while the St. Joseph University-Brooklyn Bears (0-3-0) continue searching for their first victory of the season.
Brooklyn would strike very early on, after a counterattack led to
Nikala Metreveli hitting a back heel pass to find
Andrew Gavrilov for a rocket blast into the net for the first goal in 8'.
Gavrilov would not stop there, continuing to push the offense, creating a target for himself for the Bears defenders as a player to watch.
Eric Teneda would put the ball in play to the left side to find
Youssef Ahmed, who would proceed to face his defender one-on-one and find
Andrew Gavrilov once again for a beautiful goal put out of reach in 41'.
The physical game would escalate into the second half, but so did Brooklyn's pressure on offense, as
Clermens Devariste would push the offense forward from the right side with another shot that would be saved by the bottom right corner in 63'. He would end the game with 3 shots, all of them which were on target to knock on the door of the St. Joseph's-Brooklyn goalposts.
The physicality would not only lead to five yellow cards in the game, but the most important play would occur inside the box, after Mokhtar made a remarkable run for a scoring opportunity. George Koufos would take the responsibility of the penalty shot, which he buried in the coldest way possible, putting out of reach into the bottom corner for the 3-0 score in 71'.
Metreveli would have one more shot, but the crowd would have to hold in their cheers as the ball would hit the top of the woodwork in 74'.
Up next, the Brooklyn College men's soccer team goes on the road to face the College at Old Westbury Panthers on Saturday, September 13th at 1:30pm.
