BC Women's Volleyball Plays First Tri-Match of the Season

Bulldogs Downed by Both Blue Jays & Golden Wolves

READING, Pennsylvania ------ Continuing their long road trip and playing in their first tri-match of the season, the Brooklyn College women's volleyball team looked to continue the momentum built off their game in Purchase by facing off against the Elizabethtown College Blue Jays and Alvernia University Golden Woves. The Bulldogs' first match would not go their way, as they would fall to Blue Jays in four sets [25-23, 20-25, 21-25, 17-25] after winning the first one and keeping the rest close. In their second participation of the day, they would fight hard, keep it close, but ultimately fall in three sets [23-25, 19-25, 24-26] in a tough outing.

In the meantime, the Brooklyn College Bulldogs (2-4) end up two games below an even record after the tough loss. The Elizabethtown College Blue Jays (7-2) extend their win streak to five games, winning both games in the tri-match, while the Alvernia University Golden Wolves (4-3) attain a winning record after splitting the tri-match.

vs Elizabethtown College

Brooklyn would jump out to a 3-0 lead, but Elizabethtown would outscore them 7-1 in the process to retake the lead 7-4. This would be a pattern that would follow the rest of the set, featuring nine tied scores in the process. With Brooklyn trailing 22-21, Ella Snobar would hit back-to-back aces to kick off a 3-0 run to take a 24-23, setting up for a 25-23 victory in the first set.

The Bulldogs would continue that momentum and start the set off in similar fashion, getting off to a 4-0 run. Eventually both sides would go on their respective long runs, a Blue Jays 7-0 run and a Bulldogs 5-0 run. The most important run would come later in the set as the Bulldogs would surrender their 15-14 lead after another 4-0 run by the Blue Jays that would take the lead and the set for good 25-20.

With Brooklyn up 17-11, Elizabethtown would close the gap with a 5-0 run to only be down by one point. This was enough for Elizabethtown to creep in late, as Brooklyn's lead would be erased thanks to a 6-0 run to end the set that would seal the 25-21 score.

The Blue Jays would carry this momentum into the fourth set, taking an early 3-0 lead and never surrendering it at all to take it 25-17.

vs Alvernia University

Brooklyn would find themselves in a deep hole to start the first set trailing Alvernia 7-0, but they would respond with a 5-0 run to cut the lead. This pattern of runs would continue up until Brooklyn would finally take a 16-14 lead, before another run by Alvernia of seven straight points would put it back in the home team's favor. With both sides knotted at 22, Brooklyn would struggle to put the ball in play, dropping a disappointing set one 25-23.

This time, it was the Bulldogs who would start off with the lead, and with the score 10-5, it was the Golden Wolves' turn to respond with a 6-0 run to take the lead. After several runs but no lead changes, the Bulldogs would be down two points, though it was as close as they would get as the Golden Wolves would end the set scoring the final four points needed to take the set 25-19.

Alvernia would hold onto the lead for most of the third set without surrendering it, but with the score 22-17, Brooklyn would go on a spectacular 6-0 run that saw Carroll give Brooklyn hope by taking a 23-22 lead. Alvernia would tie it once again but Mulic would get a huge block to retake the lead 24-23. Unfortunately, Alvernia would steal the set on a 3-0 run to take the game and set 26-24.
