BROOKLYN, New York ------ Coming into their second tri-match of the season, the first one being at home, the Brooklyn College women's volleyball team looked to continue their success at home when coming face-to-face with both the St. Joseph's University-Brooklyn Bears and the McDaniel College Green Terror. The Bulldogs had not lost to the Bears in almost a decade, having beaten them in the last seven encounters. Unfortunately, the streak would be broken, as the Bulldogs would lose in four sets [25-21, 18-25, 23-25, 22-25] despite the favorable odds to start. They would then go to face the Green Terror for only the second time ever, fighting until the very end but coming up short in five sets [16-25, 25-21, 20-25, 23-25]. The Brooklyn College Bulldogs (4-6) undefeated record at home ends after losing the last two today at home, as they start of their long homestand. Meanwhile, the McDaniel College Green Terror (5-5) even their record after splitting the tri-match, while the St. Joseph's University-Brooklyn Bears (5-5) get two huge wins to even their record over both their opponents for a successful tri-match.
vs St. Joseph's University-Brooklyn
The Bulldogs would start off on the right foot in the first game of the day, starting off the first set with a 3-0 run. Despite the Bears tying it up a few times throughout the set, the Bulldogs would not surrender the lead. With the score tied 11-11, the Bulldogs would proceed to score five straight points to take a 16-11 lead. However, the Bears would fight back to tie it up at 20-20 after inching slowly behind. Needing some space between the two, the Bulldogs would outscore the Bears 5-1 to take it 25-21.
Brooklyn would have the lead for a good portion of the second set, but St. Joseph's-Brooklyn would not only cut the lead to two, but they would also proceed to go on a 7-0 run to take a 20-15 lead. Brooklyn would not be able to recover, the lead, as St. Joseph's-Brooklyn would inch away with a 25-18 victory in the second to tie the game.
In the third set, the Bulldogs would find themselves trailing, but with the score 20-12 in favor of the Bears, the Bulldogs would go ona rampage by scoring eight points in a row to cut the lead to just one at 21-20, led by four aces from
Malia Reyes. The Bears would widen their lead slightly with two straight points, but the Bulldogs would see the duo of Reyes and
Ella Snobar bring them back to tie the game at 23. Unfortunately, the celebration was short-lived, as the Bears would take the next two points and score 25-23.
The fourth set looked promising for Brooklyn, as they carried a 22-17 lead late into the set. Just when it seemed the home crowd would be in for a fifth set, St. Joseph's-Brooklyn would go on to score eight straight points to steal the set and the game, building momentum for the next game after a 25-22Â steal.
- Snobar would lead the attack with 12 kills, 1 assist, 14 digs, and 6 block assists.
- Amra Mulic would lead in assists with 11 to go witn9 digs and 3 aces.
- Meadow Andrew would lead the defense with 9 block assists.
vs McDaniel College
The Green Terror would begin to take out their previous frustration, posting five points in a row to set the tone. Everytime the Bulldogs would cut into the lead, the Green Terror pulled away, none more notable than when the Bulldogs were down 20-16, but the Green Terror would score the last five points of the set to win 25-16.
With the score tied 9-9 early in the second set, Brooklyn would go on their largest run of the set by scoring five straight points and outscoring McDaniel 8-1 for a score of 17-10. Snobar would help secure the lead with the help of Mulic and
Ruti Joshi, to take it 25-21.
Everyone knew the third set would be crucial, and with the score tied 15-15, the Green Terror would go on to outscore the Bulldogs 8-1 to take a 23-16 lead. Though Snobar would give the Bulldogs hope with two aces, it would be short-lived, as the Green Terror closed it off 25-20.
McDaniel would try and set the tone scoring six straight to start the set, but the Bulldogs would eventually fight back to get back in it. Down 22-15, Reyes and Snobar would once again connect with one another to score the next seven points to tie the score. McDaniel would set themselves up for success by breaking the run and taking a 24-22 lead, eventually taking it 25-23 in heartbreaking fashion.
- Ruti Joshi would lead with 15 digs, while also contributing 6 assists and 3 aces.
- Malia Reyes would total up 7 aces for the day, 3 in this game, to go with 10 digs, and 8 assists for this game to close out the night
