Bulldogs Win Second at Home Over St. Joe's Long Island, 3-1

Brooklyn, NY----The Brooklyn College women's volleyball team won their second straight match at home on Thursday, defeating St. Joseph's Long Island, 3-1 (25-22, 25-19, 23-25, 25-22).  BC improves to 6-6 overall with the non-conference win while handing the Golden Eagles their first loss of the season as they go to 5-1.

How It Happened

Both sides would be dueling it out in the first set, but Brooklyn would eventually pull away scoring five straight points to make it 7-2. However, with Brooklyn leading 15-8, St. Joseph's Long Island would pull in closer after a 6-0 run of their own. Both sides would bounce around with the scoring before Brooklyn would finally put it away to win it 25-22 to finally close it off after St. Joseph's Long Island would creep closer.

With the score tied 17-17 in the second set, Brooklyn would put together their largest run, scoring seven straight to pull away 24-17 when neither team seemed to be able to keep a lead, led by three aces from Ruti Joshi in the span to eventually take it 25-19.

All momentum seemed to be on the Bulldogs side, taking an early 8-2 lead, but the Golden Eagles would not, scoring in a pair of runs to take the lead 11-10. The Bulldogs would eventually tie the game at 20-20 late in the third set, but they would be outscored 4-1 in that span. Olive Carroll would bring the Bulldogs close late in the set to decrease the lead to 24-23, but they could not come back as the Golden Eagles would survive and take the set.

The most crucial run would come in the middle of the set, as the Bulldogs would climb back from a 10-7 score to take a 14-10 lead. The Golden Eagles would hang around, eventually closing the gap 23-22, similar to what the Bulldogs did in the previous set. However, the Bulldogs defense would hold on taking the set 25-22 and sending the crowd happy with a loud celebration that gave them their second straight win in the homestand and ending the Golden Eagles undefeated season.
