BC Men's Soccer Takes Home Opener In Convincing Fashion Over Cobleskill

Home Sweet Home! Bulldogs Get First Victory of Season Against Fighting Tigers

BROOKLYN, New York ----- After a tough start to the season on the road, the Brooklyn College men's soccer team would finally come home to the familiar borough to play in front of their ecstatic fans against the SUNY Cobleskill Fighting Tigers. Home seemed to be exactly where the Bulldogs wanted to be and no place they would rather be as they played their most cohesive game so far this season with a 3-0 win courtesy of a strong first half on the attack.

The Brooklyn College Bulldogs (1-2-0) earn their first victory of the young season, the first under head coach Nathan Bell. Meanwhile the Cobleskill Fighting Tigers (1-2-0) drop their second game in a row after a very physical game.

Brooklyn would strike first after keeping the ball on the Cobleskill side for a solid amount of time. After Nikala Metreveli had a shot blocked, he would find Andrew Gavrilov to give him an open opportunity on the left side for a one-on-one with the goalkeeper, sending the ball to the far side of the post that was being covered for the 1-0 lead in 25'.

The Bulldogs would keep fighting for possession in the midfield, and would apply more pressure to the Fighting Tigers. Despite missing a shot on the right side two minutes before, Adan Khodorovsky would not forgive twice as he would find the back of the net closing in from the right side. Koufos would start the offense on the left side, centering the ball to find Metreveli, who would quickly find Khodorkovsky for the 2-0 in 28'.

Brooklyn would produce another chance with a through ball from Koufos, but Metreveli's shot would be saved in the center of the goal in 37'. However, less than a minute later, Brooklyn would push the offense on the right side, causing the ball to pop up in the air. Adam Moharam would win the ball, keeping it in the air before coming down to the feet of Metreveli, who would circumvent his defender to practically tap in the ball with the outside of his right foot for the 3-0 score at 38'. His performance of 2 assists, 1 goal on 4 shots with 2 on target earned him some early rest time.

The second half had Cobleskill trying to strike quick, forcing Solis-Caceres to make a save down he bottom center to keep the clean sheet alive in 48'.

The battle would continue at the midfield, becoming a way more physical game than the first half. Eventually, it would be Khodorkovsky who would create an opportunity with a shot from outside the box that forced the newly subbed Cobleskill goalkeeper to dive to the bottom right for a save in 68'. Khodorkovsky would end the game with 1 goal on 4 shots with 2 on target.

Gavrilov would have one more solid opportunity, kicking another shot from outside the box coming from the left side to hit the left woodwork before eventually getting it back for a shot that went just above the goalposts at 81'. Gavrilov would have a statline of 1 goal on 4 shots with 1 on target, sparking the offense whenever he was on the field.

Up next, the Brooklyn College men's soccer team stays at home for a match against the St. Joseph's University-Brooklyn Bears on Wednesday, September 10th at 6:00pm as part of a doubleheader feature at Brooklyn College Field.
