New York, NY----Overcoming an eleven-point halftime deficit, the Brooklyn College women's basketball team rallied in the second half to defeat Hunter, 66-59, on the road on Wednesday. BC improves to 12-3 (5-0 CUNYAC) with the conference victory while the Hawks dropped to 11-6 (4-1 CUNYAC). Brooklyn is now in sole possession of first place in the conference standings. Next Up: Brooklyn returns home in conference play against John Jay on Friday at 5pm.
Trailing 51-48 with 7:22 left in regulation, the Bulldogs went on an 11-0 run for an eight-point advantage ending at the 1:12 mark following a
Sheily Quezada made jumper. The Hawks pulled within three points with :21 to go in the fourth quarter, but the Bulldogs went 4-4 down the stretch to secure the victory.
Brooklyn opened the second half on a 12-2 run sparked by an
Aaliyah McCalla three-pointer and capped by an Anna kitch layup.
Brianna Jackson eventually tied the game, 38-38, on a three-point make with 6:54 left in the third quarter. However, the Hawks responded with a 5-0 run before taking a three-point lead to end the third quarter.
The Bulldogs jumped out to a 9-0 lead to start the contest before the home team battled back to edge out BC, 15-14, by the end of the first quarter. Hunter eventually ended the first half on an 8-0 run for a 34-23 halftime lead.
After scoring 13 points in the first half, Brooklyn kept the nation's leading scorer, Alexa Charles, who was averaging 32.3 ppg, to eight points in the second half for a game-high 21 points.
BC outscored the Hawks 34-26 in points in the paint and 12-8 on second chance points.
Jackson finished with a team-high 15 points to go along with 6 assists and 3 steals. Quezada had a double-double, finishing with 11 points and 12 rebounds. McCalla chipped in 10 points and grabbed 5 rebounds. Kitch finished with 9 points and a game-high 18 rebounds.
