Bronx, NY-----Despite scoring first in every set played, the Brooklyn College men's volleyball dropped a 3-0 (21-25, 18-25, 22-25) decision at Lehman College on Wednesday. Brooklyn drops to 1-2 overall with the loss while the Lightning earned their first win of the season to go to 1-3 overall. The teams will meet again for their conference match on March 31 at Brooklyn. Next Up: Brooklyn is right back at it at home on Thursday, 1/29, against the University of Mt. St. Vincent at 6pm.
BC opened the match with a three-score rally capped by back-to-back aces served up by
Miguel Trejo. However, the home team responded with a 3-0 run of their own to tie the set. Already leading 14-12, Lehman scored four unanswered points that the Bulldogs would never be able to come back from.
Lehman went on a short rally once again in the middle of the second set to provide the cushion needed to eventually take a 2-0 lead in the match.
Brooklyn took a 6-4 lead in the early goings of the third set following a four-score rally that included back-to-back
Joaquin Calderon kills. The Bulldogs extended their lead to 15-8 following an
Aiden Melecio kill. However, Lehman answered the call and tied the set, 16-16, after a 6-0 run. With the score tied, 22-22, Lehman completed the sweep with a three-score rally.
Lehman finished with a 14-3 advantage in blocks for the match. Jordan Johnson finished with a match-high 8 kills for the Lightning.
Calderon put away a team-high 7 kills and came up with 5 digs.
Jiaian Flanders finished with 6 kills. Trejo and Melecio served up 3 aces each.
