Brooklyn, NY----BC junior forward,
Herbert Gary, scored the winning layup to give the Brooklyn College men's basketball team a 76-74 conference victory at Medgar Evers on Friday. Winning back-to-back conference games in exciting fashion, BC improves to 5-9 (3-1 CUNYAC) while the Cougars drop to 0-14 (0-4 CUNYAC). Next Up: Brooklyn will look to remain undefeated in 2026 at Hunter College on Wednesday, January 14, at 7pm.
With the score tied, 74-74, with :06 to go in regulation, BC senior guard, D'Aze Hunter drove the ball down the length of the court and got just outside the lane to draw a second defender and finding Gary alone under the basket for the game-winner. Hunter finished with a game-high 6 assists on the evening.
The home team would grab a 73-72 lead with 1:48 left in the second half. Brooklyn sophomore guard,
Muneer Ibrahem, helped Brooklyn retake the lead, 74-73, with a pair of made free-throws with 11 seconds remaining in regulation before Medgar Evers tied it up by converting one of two free-throws prior to what would be the last play of the game.
Brooklyn led by as many as seven points in the second half following an
Abdoulaye Gueye layup with 12:03 to go in regulation. However, the Cougars went on a 9-1 run to take their first lead of the second half.
Trailing by as many as seven points in the first half, BC went on a 10-0 run to take an 18-15 lead with 9:34 before halftime. The Bulldogs grabbed their largest lead of the game, 34-25, following a made three buried by Hunter.
Brooklyn's bench outscored the Cougars' 53-33 on the evening.
Gary finished with a BC career-high 21 points and grabbed 12 rebounds. Gueye had his second straight standout performance offensively, finishing with 18 points on 6-10 shooting from the floor. Ibrahem also came up big off of the bench for BC finishing with 14 points on 4-6 shooting from the field.
