Brooklyn, NY----The Brooklyn College men's volleyball team dropped their conference opener at home on Tuesday to John Jay, 3-1. BC moves to 3-3 overall (0-1 CUNYAC) with their first loss in three matches while the Bloodhounds improved to 4-3 (1-0 CUNYAC). Next Up: Brooklyn continues conference play at CCNY on Thursday, 2/19, at 7pm.
Brooklyn jumped out to a 9-3 lead to start the match highlighted by a pair of aces served up
Aiden Melecio during a 5-0 un. With the Bulldogs already leading 19-16, Brooklyn took complete control of the set with a five-score rally sparked by a Matthew Kadatskiy kill for a 24-16 advantage. After a John Jay score, Kadatskiy gave Brooklyn a 1-0 lead in the match with another kill.
The Bloodhounds responded by outhitting Brooklyn .423 to .25 in the second set to tie the match. John Jay took a 2-1 lead in the match after grabbing a 10-3 advantage to start the third set. Brooklyn eventually cut the John Jay lead to 11-9 after consecutive scores including a
Joaquin Calderon kill, but the Bloodhounds put together a few back-to-back scores themselves to close out the set.
Brooklyn showed some grit in the fourth set after being down 6-2 early on. The Bulldogs took a 19-16 lead after a five-score rally that included a Calderon ace and an
Aaron Siu kill. However, John Jay answered the call beginning with a 6-0 run to retake the lead, 22-19. The Bulldogs didn't go away, cutting the deficit to 24-23 before John Jay closed out the match on a kill.
John Jay was led by Nick Fuentes' match-high 12 kills.
Calderon put away a team-high 10 kills, came up with 6 digs, and had a pair of solo blocks. Kadatskiy finished with 8 kills and a solo block.
Miguel Trejo set for a match-high 27 assists and came up with 6 digs.
