New York, NY----In a closely contested conference matchup, the Brooklyn College men's basketball team fell at John Jay, 63-61, on Wednesday. BC moves to 9-15 (7-5 CUNYAC) with the loss while the Bloodhounds improve to 8-15 (6-6 CUNYAC) with the regular season sweep. Next Up: Brooklyn will play their final two regular season games at home beginning with York on Friday at 7:15pm.
Trailing the Bloodhounds, 30-28, at halftime, the Bulldogs opened the second half on a 4-0 run. A
Joe Charles layup gave the Bulldogs a 38-34 advantage with 15:00 minutes remaining in regulation.
Brooklyn extended their lead to as many as five points, 52-47, following a Charles three-point make with 6:35 left in the second half. However, the home team responded with a 7-0 run to retake the lead 4:41 to go in regulation.
BC junior guard,
D'aze Hunter, cut the John Jay lead to 62-60 by the 1:23 mark in the second half.
Thomas Hall would connect on one of two free-throws to help Brooklyn pull within a point, 62-61, with :52 to go. The Bloodhounds converted 1-2 free-throws forty seconds later. Brooklyn's final two chances to take the lead fell short in the last 12 seconds of the contest.
The visitors erased a 9-0 deficit to start the game, cutting the John Jay lead to 16-13 following a Charles layup with 9:14 left in the first half.
Herbert Gary made a jumper with 1:26 left in the first half for the halftime score.
Brooklyn shot the ball better from the field than the home team, 40.4%-31.3%. However, the Bloodhounds outscored BC 15-10 in second chance points.
Jamir Stewart paced John Jay with a game-high 21 points. Aidony Nivar added 20 points.
Charles led Brooklyn in scoring with 18 points to go along with 8 rebounds and 4 assists. Hunter added 15 points and also finished with 8 rebounds. Gary produced a double-double off of the bench, finishing with 14 points and 12 rebounds.
