BC Men's Basketball Claims Critical Victory Over Hunter In Regular Season Finale

Bulldogs Move To Second Seed For Playoffs

BROOKLYN, New York -----Clinching the No. 2 seed in the upcoming CUNYAC Championship Tournament, the Brooklyn College men's basketball team survived a second half run to defeat Hunter College, 64-60, in their regular season finale at the West Quad Center. Senior, Thomas Hall, was honored before the game began in front of a packed house at the West Quad Center.  BC closes out the regular season with an 11-14 (9-5 CUNYAC) record while the Hawks wrapped up their season with a 6-19 (4-10 CUNYAC) mark.  Brooklyn finished the regular season with their best conference record since the 2015-16 campaign. Up Next: Brooklyn will host the winner of the quarterfinal matchup between No. 6 seed, CCNY (5-9 CUNYAC),  and No. 3 seed , Baruch College (8-6 CUNYAC) in the CUNYAC Championship Semifinals on Tuesday, February 24, at 7:15pm at the West Quad Center.  

How It Happened

  • Hunter would take an early 8-7 lead after making their first basket of the game, but Brooklyn would score the next eight to take the lead 15-8 with 13:17 left in the first half.

  • Though the Hawks would close the gap to four points, the Bulldogs would go on an 11-1 run to lead, 29-15, with 5:31 to go in the first half before taking a 33-25 halftime advantage. 
  • Hunter opened the second half on a 12-0 run, taking a 37-33 lead with 15:41 to go in regulation. 
  • With the Hawks up 49-45, it was the Bulldogs' turn to make a run of their own, scoring the next ten points to retake the lead 55-49 with 3:29 to go in regulation. This would end up being the defining run despite the Hawks pulling within a point on a couple of occasions in the final two minutes of the second half. Ultimately, Brooklyn's defense would put together one important stop to force two trips to the free throw line and seal the key conference win. 

Team Comparison

  • Brooklyn had 26 points off of turnovers in comparison to Hunter's 8. 
  • Both sides would be even with 10 fast break points, both had leads of up to 9 points, and tied the score 4 times for the contest.

  • D'aze Hunter scored a career-high 23 points while shooting 9-13 from the field, grabbed 3 rebounds, and came up with 3 steals. 
  • Joe Charles added 13 points, grabbed 4 rebounds boards, and dished out 3 assists. 
  • Hall chipped in 10 points, grabbed 3 rebounds, dished out 3 assists, and blocked a pair of shots.
