Jersey City, NJ----After winning their first conference match of the season on Thursday, the Brooklyn College men's volleyball team fell in CUNYAC play at New Jersey City University, 3-0 (25-9, 25-13, 25-15) on Friday. Brooklyn moves to 4-4 (1-2 CUNYAC) in defeat while the Gothic Knights improved to 10-4 (3-0 CUNYAC). Next Up: Brooklyn returns to their non-conference slate in a makeup match with Purchase College on the road on Wednesday, 2/25, at 8pm.
The home team jumped out to a 7-1 lead to start the match. Brooklyn wasn't able to put a rally together through the first set.
NJCU rallied for six straight scores right out of the gate in the second set. Brooklyn cut the home team's lead to 15-8 after back-to-back scores, but that is as close as they'd get for the remainder of the set.
Brooklyn grabbed a 2-1 lead early in the third set before NJCU would retake the lead with a three-score rally. The Bulldogs hung around, only trailing 11-9, before the Gothic Knights went on an 8-0 run to take complete control of the set.
Victor De Souza led the way for NJCU with 15.5 points on 8 kills, 5 service aces, a solo block, and a pair of block assists.
Joaquin Calderon led BC offensively with four kills and a service ace.
Lior Amromin finished with 3.5 points on 3 kills and a block assist.
