BC Men's Basketball Wins Overtime Thriller Against Medgar Evers

Bulldogs Take Battle Of Brooklyn Over Cougars

BROOKLYN, New York ------ Coming into their first game in February, the Brooklyn College men's basketball team hoped to continue to build momentum after an impressive victory on the road in their previous conference encounter. They would find themselves in a basket-for-basket battle at home with their cross-borough conference opponents in the Medgar Evers College Cougars. Brooklyn College would get a game-tying bucket in the last few seconds of the game to force overtime in the most improbable scenario, keeping that momentum to beat Medgar Evers College by a score of 74-61.

The Brooklyn College Bulldogs (8-12, 6-4 CUNYAC) now ride a two-game winning streak to have a winning record in the conference, while the Medgar Evers College Cougars (0-21, 0-10 CUNYAC) continue to search for their first victory of the season.

After two and a half minutes into the first half, the Bulldogs would be the ones to break the ice to kick off six straight points, a lead they would keep for the first part of the half. Up by just two, Joe Charles would hit a three-pointer off a pass from Hunter to extend the lead to 14-9 with 11:38 to go.

Medgar Evers would tie it at 18-18 and then proceed to take the lead off a jumper by th elbow with 5:15 to go until the half. Brooklyn would find themselves down by four, but a late layup would bring them within two, going into halftime down 24-22.

Out of halftime, it was the visiting Cougars that would come out scoring two early buckets to take the lead, but eventually both sides would find themselves tied at 35-35 with 11:31 to go. Eventually, the Bulldogs would see momentum shift to the visitors, who went up by twelve by a score of 56-44 with 3:16 to go.

Abdoulaye Gueye would help bring Brooklyn back from the large deficit, scoring the next ten points to bringing themselves within two with 1:02 to go, playing excellent pressure defense to force the ball out of Medgar Evers' hands.

Kukaj would grab a crucial offensive rebound to bring it back out to Charles, who would find Thomas Hall for a go-ahead layup with 18 seconds left.

Joe Charles 21 points, 8 rebounds, 4 assists, 2 steals, 1 block
Abdoulaye Gueye 13 points, 14 rebounds, 2 steals
Thomas Hall 11 points on 5-for-6, 4 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals

Up next, the Brooklyn College men's basketball travels to Harlem, New York on Friday, February 6 to face off against the City College of New York Beavers at 7:00pm.
