BC Men's Volleyball Wins Second Game In A Row Against CCNY

Bulldogs Win Four of Last Five To Build Momentum for Road Trip

Brooklyn, NY – The City College of New York men's volleyball team fell to Brooklyn College in straight sets on Thursday evening in CUNYAC action at the West Quad Center. Brooklyn secured the 3-0 victory with set scores of 25-18, 25-22, and 25-22. The Beavers move to 6-10 overall and 1-7 in conference play, while Brooklyn improves to 8-5 overall and 3-4 in CUNYAC competition.

Brooklyn established the early momentum in the opening set, using a 6-2 run to turn an early tie into a 10-6 advantage. The Beavers responded with a brief push behind kills from Amir Nabiyev and Nana Boateng to cut the deficit to two points, but the Bulldogs answered with a 5-1 stretch to extend their lead to 18-12. Brooklyn maintained control from there and closed the set on a 7-6 finish to take the 25-18 win.

The second set featured a tighter battle throughout. CCNY used a 4-1 run midway through the set to tie the score at 14 after a kill by Mahmoud Tayeh. The teams traded points through several ties before Brooklyn gained separation with a 4-1 run to move ahead 21-18. The Beavers closed the gap to one point late in the frame, but the Bulldogs secured the final points to take the set 25-22 and move ahead two sets to none.

CCNY continued to compete in the third set, which included eight tie scores and four lead changes. Brooklyn built an early 9-6 lead before the Beavers answered with a 4-1 run to even the set at 10. The teams exchanged points through the middle portion of the frame until Brooklyn used a 5-2 run to gain a 21-18 advantage. CCNY trimmed the deficit to one point late in the set, but Brooklyn finished with a 4-3 closing stretch to complete the sweep with a 25-22 victory.

Mahmoud Tayeh led CCNY with seven kills and one service ace, while Nana Boateng and Amir Nabiyev each added seven kills. Antonio Oliveira-Nurse was a presence at the net with three solo blocks and three block assists. Ruben Santiago directed the offense with 13 assists, and Moustafa Elsabagh led the defensive effort with eight digs.

Brooklyn was paced by Aaron Siu with 10 kills on .474 hitting and Matthew Kadatskiy with nine kills and four total blocks. Armand Kaloshi added four service aces to help lead the Bulldogs offensively.

As a team, CCNY recorded 27 kills, six service aces, and six total blocks in the match. Brooklyn finished with 31 kills, nine service aces, and eight blocks.

Up next, the Brooklyn College men's volleyball team will return to conference action on the road against the Hunter College Hawks on Tuesday, March 17th at 6pm.
