BROOKLYN, NY — The Brooklyn College men's tennis team dropped a 6–1 decision to Thomas College on Friday afternoon on the Roosevelt Tennis Courts. With the loss, Brooklyn College falls to 0–2 on the season, while Thomas College improves to 1–0. Next Up: Brooklyn remains home on March 17 for another non-conference match against Purchase College at 3:30 pm.
Thomas opened the match by sweeping the doubles competition to take a 1–0 lead heading into singles play. The pair of Dominic Clifford and Camden Herrick edged Giorgi Zhamutashvili and Dennis Shender in a tightly contested No. 1 doubles match, 7–6 (7–5). Thomas also claimed victories at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles to secure the early advantage.
Brooklyn's lone point came at No. 4 singles, where James Walsh delivered a strong performance with a straight-set (6–2, 6–2) victory over Calvin Cutler.
At the top singles position, Zhamutashvili battled in one of the day's most competitive matches but ultimately fell to Thai Nguyen in a third-set super tiebreaker, 6–1, 6–7 (8–10), 10–6. Thomas added straight-set wins at No. 2 and No. 5 singles, while also taking the remaining singles matches to seal the team victory.
