BC Men's Volleyball Takes Two From Medgar Evers

Brooklyn, NY----The Brooklyn College men's volleyball team cruised to a pair of wins at Medgar Evers College on Tuesday evening.  BC took the first match of the night, 3-0 (25-9, 25-14, 25-14), before also sweeping the Cougars in the second match, 3-0 (25-13, 25-9, 25-16).  Brooklyn improves to 11-6 (3-4 CUNYAC) with the wins while the Cougars drop to 0-15 (0-6 CUNYAC).  Next Up: BC travels to Valley Forge on Saturday for a non-conference trimatch against the host and Gallaudet.  

Match 1 Recap 

Brooklyn controlled the match from the opening whistle, hitting .462 in the first set and maintaining steady offensive pressure throughout. Gabriel Minchala sparked the attack with seven kills, while Matthew Kadatskiy and Tylar Pina added six and five kills respectively. Setter Miguel Trejo efficiently guided the offense with 17 assists and contributed four service aces. The Bulldogs also posted a balanced defensive effort, highlighted by strong back-row play from Ali Zandani, who tallied eight digs.

From the service line, Brooklyn tallied nine aces, maintaining momentum with aggressive but controlled serves. Defensively, the Bulldogs held Medgar Evers to a negative hitting percentage while recording one team block and consistent digging across rotations.

For Medgar Evers, Christian Owolabi led with three kills, and Shabbir Ahmed added two kills and a team-high six assists. Despite improved play in the final set, the Cougars struggled to find rhythm against a sharp and confident Brooklyn squad.

Match 2 Recap 

Brooklyn controlled the match from start to finish, hitting an impressive .493 as a team while recording 40 kills on just seven errors. The Bulldogs were especially efficient in the first two sets, posting hitting percentages of .591 and .688, respectively, to build early momentum they would not relinquish.

Leading the offensive charge was Matthew Kadatskiy, who tallied a match-high 10 kills while adding six service aces for a total of 16 points. Aaron Siu was equally effective, registering nine kills on a .727 hitting percentage along with three aces.

Gabriel Minchala contributed eight kills on a .700 clip, while setter Miguel Trejo orchestrated the offense with 22 assists and three aces. Brooklyn's serving pressure proved decisive, as the team combined for 17 aces in the match.

Defensively, Brooklyn totaled 25 digs, with contributions spread across the lineup. Kevin Quan led the way with eight digs, helping limit Medgar Evers' offensive rhythm.

Medgar Evers was paced by Christian Owolabi, who finished with three kills and six digs, while Kimahli Reid added two aces and five digs.

Brooklyn set the tone early, pulling away midway through the opening set before dominating the second frame with a .688 hitting percentage. The Bulldogs closed out the match in the third, overcoming a brief push from Medgar Evers to secure the sweep.
