BC Men's Volleyball Extend Win Streak Sweeping Tri-Match At Valley Forge

Bulldogs Defeat Gallaudet in Five, Sweeps Patriots in Three, Extends Streak to Five

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 PHOENIXVILLE, Pennsylvania ------ Coming into their final tri-match of the year, the Brooklyn College men's volleyball team would travel to face the Gallaudet University and the University of Valley Forge Patriots to continue to build on their momentum and winning streak. In the first match, they would make a comeback from down two sets to win it in five [19-25, 25-27, 25-21, 25-21, 15-8]. The second match against the hosts would further build their momentum, coming away with a sweep [25-15, 26-24, 25-16] to extend win streak to five.  

 

vs Gallaudet University

Gallaudet controlled the opening set, using a 7-2 run to turn a narrow 10-9 lead into a 17-11 advantage. Brooklyn attempted to respond with a late push, but Gallaudet maintained separation and closed the set on an 8-8 stretch to secure the 25-19 win.

The second set featured extended rallies and momentum swings, with 12 tie scores and six lead changes. Brooklyn built a 20-17 lead following a 5-2 run, but Gallaudet answered with a 6-2 stretch to take a late advantage. The teams traded points down the stretch before Gallaudet closed the set with a 4-2 run to edge Brooklyn 27-25 and take a two-set lead.

Facing a deficit  and trailing by two sets, Brooklyn responded in the third set with improved offensive efficiency. Trailing 14-13, the Bulldogs used a 6-2 run to take control at 19-16. Gallaudet cut the deficit to one point, but Brooklyn answered with a 6-4 closing stretch to take the set 25-21 and extend the match.

Brooklyn carried that momentum into the fourth set. With the score tied at 12, the Bulldogs went on a 7-3 run to build a 19-15 advantage. Gallaudet continued to battle and trimmed the margin late, but Brooklyn maintained its edge and finished the set on a 6-6 stretch to even the match with a 25-21 win.

In the decisive fifth set, Brooklyn quickly seized control with a 6-1 run to open play. Gallaudet was unable to recover from the early deficit as the Bulldogs continued to apply pressure. Brooklyn closed the match on a 9-7 finish to secure the 15-8 victory and complete the comeback.

Brooklyn was led by Aaron Siu and Matthew Kadatskiy, who each recorded 13 kills, while Kadatskiy added three blocks. Aiden Melecio contributed six kills and 10 digs, and Armand Kaloshi chipped in six kills. Joel Hernandez and Miguel Trejo combined for 40 assists to guide the offense.

Gallaudet was paced by Zachary Bippus with a match-high 18 kills, while Kodi Lee added eight kills and 10 digs. Troy Holcomb dished out 29 assists and recorded 11 digs in the loss.

As a team, Brooklyn totaled 51 kills, 10 service aces, and hit .232 in the match, while Gallaudet finished with 41 kills, five aces, and a .163 hitting percentage.

vs Valley Forge

Brooklyn set the tone early in the opening frame, using a 7-1 run to jump out to an 11-4 lead. The Bulldogs continued to apply pressure behind strong serving, extending the advantage with a 6-2 stretch to make it 17-8. Valley Forge was unable to recover as Brooklyn closed the set on an 8-7 finish to secure the 25-15 win.

The second set proved to be the most competitive of the match. Valley Forge stayed within striking distance and eventually tied the score at 20 following a late push. Brooklyn responded with a 3-1 run to move ahead 23-21, but Valley Forge answered to even the set again at 24. The Bulldogs held their composure and closed on a 2-0 run to take the set 26-24 and a two-set lead.

In the third set, Brooklyn regained control early, breaking a 6-6 tie with a 6-2 run to build a 12-8 advantage. The Bulldogs continued to separate with a 7-3 stretch to extend the lead to 19-11. Valley Forge could not close the gap as Brooklyn finished the match on a 6-5 run to complete the sweep with a 25-16 victory.

Matthew Kadatskiy led Brooklyn with six kills and added nine service aces, playing a key role in shifting momentum throughout the match. Gabriel Minchala contributed six kills on .385 hitting, while Aiden Melecio added four kills on an efficient .800 percentage. Lior Amromin chipped in four kills and two service aces.

Joel Hernandez and Miguel Trejo combined for 19 assists to guide the Brooklyn offense, which totaled 33 kills and 14 service aces as a team.

Valley Forge was led by Isaiah Reece with eight kills and 13 digs, while Patrick Tyler added three kills and eight assists. Drew White contributed on both sides of the net with two kills and two blocks.

As a team, Brooklyn hit .186 with 33 kills, while Valley Forge recorded 17 kills and a .041 hitting percentage in the match.


Up next, the Brooklyn College men's volleyball team comes back home to face the Lehman College Lightning in conference play on Tuesday, March 31st at 6pm on Senior Night at the West Quad Gymnasium.
