Brooklyn, NY----The Brooklyn College men's tennis team rolled to their third straight win, shutting out the University of Mt. St. Vincent, 7-0, on the Roosevelt Courts on Wednesday. BC improves to 3-2 overall with the non-conference victory while the Dolphins drop to 0-2. Next Up: Brooklyn trips up to Bronxville, NY on Friday to take on Sarah Lawrence College at 5pm. Â
Brooklyn set the tone early by capturing all three doubles matches in convincing fashion. The top pairing of Dylan Augustin and Giorgi Zhamutashvili cruised to a 6-1 victory, while the duo of Allen Mardakhayev and Christopher Vasquez blanked their opponents at second doubles, 6-0. Raymond Kazim and James Walsh capped the doubles sweep with a strong 6-3 win at the third spot.
In singles play, the Bulldogs continued their dominance, winning five matches in straight sets. Zhamutashvili led the charge at No. 1 singles with a commanding 6-1, 6-2 victory. Mardakhayev followed with a 6-0, 6-1 win at second singles, and Walsh secured a 6-1, 6-1 triumph in the No. 3 slot.
Augustin was equally impressive at No. 4 singles, earning a 6-1, 6-1 decision, while Vasquez posted a 6-1, 6-0 win at fifth singles.
The most competitive match of the afternoon came at No. 6 singles, where Michael Friedman battled through a three-set super tiebreak. After taking the opening set 6-3, Friedman dropped the second set before rallying to secure a 10-7 victory in the decisive tiebreak.
Brooklyn's all-around effort showcased both depth and consistency, as the Bulldogs did not drop a single match en route to the shutout victory.
