BROOKLYN, New York – Coming into Senior Night taking place during the home finale, the Brooklyn College men's volleyball team looked to break the tie with their conference opponents in the Lehman College Lightning. They would manage to avenge the loss during a non-conference match earlier in the season, earning a straight-set conference victory over Lehman College on Tuesday evening at the West Quad Center. Brooklyn College would extend their win streak to six games, securing the 3-0 [25-19, 25-19, 26-24] win on Senior Night. Seniors Aaron Siu, Tyler Pina, and Miguel Trejo, were honored prior to the game.
The Brooklyn College Bulldogs (14-6, 4-4 CUNYAC) have now won the last six games, posting a near identical record at home and on the road, while the Lehman College Lightning (10-14, 3-5 CUNYAC) now find themselves one seed under in the standings.
Brooklyn came out strong in the opening set, using a 6-2 run to break an early 7-7 tie and build a 13-9 advantage. The Bulldogs continued to control the tempo with a 7-4 stretch to extend the lead to 20-13. Lehman attempted to close the gap late, but Brooklyn finished the set on a 5-6 stretch to take the 25-19 win.
In the second set, Brooklyn again created separation early. After a 5-5 start, the Bulldogs went on a 6-1 run to take an 11-6 lead. Lehman responded with a brief push to cut the deficit to three, but Brooklyn answered with a 6-3 run to move ahead 17-11. The teams traded points down the stretch before Brooklyn closed on an 8-8 finish to secure another 25-19 set victory.
The third set proved to be the most competitive, featuring five tie scores. Lehman built a late 20-17 advantage following a 5-2 run, putting pressure on Brooklyn to extend the match. The Bulldogs responded with a 5-1 run to regain the lead at 22-21. Lehman fought off multiple match points to tie the set at 24, but Brooklyn held firm and closed on a 2-0 run to complete the sweep with a 26-24 win.
Aaron Siu led Brooklyn with 13 kills on .385 hitting and added two service aces. Matthew Kadatskiy contributed eight kills on an efficient .462 percentage along with three total blocks, while Joaquin Calderon and Lior Amromin each added nine kills to balance the offense.
Miguel Trejo and Joel Hernandez combined for 35 assists in directing a Brooklyn attack that hit .309 for the match. Defensively, Ali Zandani led the team with 10 digs, while Kadatskiy added six.
Lehman was led by Jordan Johnson with five kills and three service aces, while Abdoylaye Kante and Almir Pepic each recorded five and four kills, respectively. Nathaniel Matthie dished out 15 assists and added six digs in the loss.
As a team, Brooklyn totaled 43 kills and hit .309, while Lehman recorded 19 kills and finished with a .000 hitting percentage.
Up next, the Brooklyn College men's volleyball team will finish the regular season on the road for a make-up game against the Purchase College Panthers in non-conference action on Thursday, April 2nd at 8pm.
