Purchase, NY----Snapping a six-match winning streak, the Brooklyn College men's volleyball team dropped their regular season finale, 3-1 (17-25, 19-25, 26-24, 18-25), at Purchase College on Thursday night. BC closes out the regular season with a 14-7 overall record with the non-conference loss while the Panthers improve to 11-13. Next Up: Clinching the #5 seed in the upcoming CUNYAC Championship Tournament, the Bulldogs travel to #4 John Jay on Tuesday for their quarterfinal match at 7pm. Â
After dropping the first two sets, Brooklyn responded with its strongest play of the night in the third. The Bulldogs used a balanced offensive attack and improved efficiency to post 13 kills on a .370 hitting percentage, committing just three errors on 27 attempts. The set featured six ties, but only one lead change, as Brooklyn managed to hold its advantage late.
Trailing 24-23 and facing set point, Brooklyn showed composure under pressure. A key kill from Matthew Kadatskiy evened the score at 24-24 before the Bulldogs capitalized on a Purchase error to reach set point. Brooklyn then sealed the 26-24 win with another clutch finish, extending the match to a fourth set.
Kadatskiy played a pivotal role in the third set, contributing multiple kills and maintaining pressure from the service line. Lior Amromin and Armand Kaloshi also chipped in timely offense, while the Bulldogs' defense tightened to limit Purchase's attacking efficiency to .121 in the set.
Despite the momentum gained from the third-set victory, Purchase regrouped in the fourth to close out the match.
Kadatskiy led Brooklyn with a team-high 20.0 points behind nine kills on a .438 hitting percentage, while also contributing seven service aces and five total blocks. Amromin added nine kills (10.0 points), and Kaloshi and Aaron Siu finished with six and five kills, respectively.
Purchase was led by Hector Ruiz, who tallied a match-high 19 kills, while Danny Kanner recorded 25 assists and Joey Toscano added 16 digs.
Brooklyn's offense totaled 40 kills on 117 attempts for a .111 hitting percentage, while adding eight service aces and 39 digs. Joel Hernandez and Miguel Trejo combined for 31 assists in the match.
