Bulldogs' Win-Streak Snapped at USMMA

Kings Point, NY----On Tuesday afternoon, the Brooklyn College men's tennis team had their four-match winning streak snapped on the road at the United States Merchant Marine Academy, 7-0.  Brooklyn moves to 7-4 overall with the non-conference loss while the Mariners improve to 6-3.  Next Up: Brooklyn returns to their conference slate on Friday with a key CUNYAC matchup at home against Hunter College at 3pm.  

USMMA set the tone early by sweeping all three doubles matches. At first doubles, Giorgi Zhamutashvili and James Walsh fell 6-2 to Brent Mathews and Fredrich Buquel. The second doubles tandem of Allen Mardakhayev and Dennis Shender was also defeated by a 6-2 margin against Alex Lewis and Aaron Zhao. In the third spot, Dylan Augustin and Christopher Vasquez dropped a 6-3 decision to Clay Wilson and Travis Filer.

In singles play, the Mariners continued their strong performance, winning all six matches in straight sets. Zhamutashvili battled at the top flight but fell 6-2, 6-4 to Mathews. Mardakhayev was defeated by Buquel, 6-2, 6-3, while Shender dropped his match to Zhao, 6-1, 6-0.

Walsh competed at fourth singles, falling 6-3, 6-2 to Keegan Dutton. At fifth singles, Vasquez was topped by Zach Diep, 6-0, 6-1. Augustin rounded out the lineup at sixth singles, where he fell 6-0, 6-0 to Lewis.
