Bronx, NY----The Brooklyn College men's tennis team delivered a dominant performance on Wednesday afternoon, sweeping Lehman College, 7-0, at the APEX Courts in the Bronx. With the victory, the Bulldogs improve to 5-3 overall and remain unbeaten in conference play at 4-0. The Lightning drops to 1-6 (1-3 CUNYAC) with the loss. Next Up: Brooklyn returns to their non-conference slate with a makeup match against Purchase College at home on Friday, April 10, at 3:30 pm on the Roosevelt Courts. Â
Brooklyn set the tone early by sweeping all three doubles matches in convincing fashion. The top duo of Giorgi Zhamutashvili and James Walsh rolled to a 6-1 victory, while the tandems of Allen Mardakhayev and Dennis Shender, and Dylan Augustin and Christopher Vasquez, each secured decisive 6-0 wins to give the Bulldogs a 3-0 lead heading into singles play.
The momentum carried over seamlessly into singles competition, where Brooklyn did not drop a set across all six matches. Zhamutashvili led the charge at No. 1 singles with a commanding 6-0, 6-0 win. Mardakhayev followed with a 6-1, 6-1 victory at the No. 2 spot, and Shender matched that scoreline at No. 3 singles.
Walsh continued the dominance at No. 4 singles, earning a 6-0, 6-1 decision, while Vasquez picked up a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 5. Rounding out the sweep, Raymond Kazim secured the final point with a 6-1, 6-3 victory at No. 6 singles.
