Brooklyn, NY----After grinding out a 1-1 draw on Tuesday at Farmingdale State, the Brooklyn College men's soccer team would come up with the same result on Wednesday as the Bulldogs tied borough foe, St. Joseph's Brooklyn, 2-2, in their Home Opener at Brooklyn College Field. The Bulldogs go to 0-0-2 to start the season while the Bears move to 0-0-1. Next Up: BC returns to action at Montclair State on Monday, Sept. 7, at 7pm. Â
St. Joseph's struck early, taking a 1-0 lead in the third minute when Matthew Cottone finished a scoring chance off assists from Joaquin Franco and Francisco Garcia.
Brooklyn goalkeeper Juan Carlos Solis Cazares kept the Bulldogs within striking distance in the opening half, making two saves as St. Joseph's maintained its advantage heading into halftime.
The Bulldogs came out aggressively in the second half and found the equalizer in the 67th minute. Nathaniel Xavier Liebling scored his first goal of the season off a cross from David Zlobinsky, leveling the match at 1-1.
St. Joseph's regained the lead less than 10 minutes later when Jared Nereo Flores scored in the 75th minute off an assist from Francisco Garcia.
Brooklyn responded immediately. Just 85 seconds later, Adam Moharam found the back of the net for the second time this season to bring the Bulldogs tie the score once again. Alberto Henig Sanchez and Asatullaev were credited with assists on the equalizer.
The Bulldogs had opportunities to complete the comeback but could not find a go-ahead goal in the final minutes of action. Brooklyn finished with an 8-4 advantage in shots and held a 4-3 edge in corner kicks.
Solis Cazares made two saves in goal for Brooklyn, while St. Joseph's goalkeeper, Edwin Sacramento, also recorded two saves.
