In the early going of the 2008-09 Men’s Basketball season, junior forward Richard Jean-Baptiste (St. John’s Prep / Queens, NY) has shown why he was selected not only as the CUNYAC preseason Player of the Year but as Division III All-American.  Over the first four games of the campaign, Jean-Baptiste has averaged a team-best 22.5 points and 8.5 rebounds per contest.  He has scored 20-plus points in three games, all Brooklyn wins.  His best overall game of the young season came in the opening game of the 2008 Panther Classic at SUNY Old Westbury.  In a BC win over the host school, Jean-Baptiste poured in 27 points and collected 15 caroms as the Bridges overcame a 10 point deficit in the game’s final eight minutes.  Head Coach Steve Podias is thrilled with the performance of Jean-Baptiste, saying “He’s a special player who works harder at his craft than you might think. His team-first attitude is exemplary.”  Jean-Baptiste, whose older brother Jeff was a standout BC player in his own right and currently serves as an assistant coach, is a Physical Education major.
