Yuliya Orkis Named Brooklyn College Female Student-Athlete of the Month for September
Sophomore Yuliya Orkis, a two-year member of the BC Women’s Tennis team, has been named the Brooklyn College Female Student-Athlete of the Month, for the month of September.
Orkis, the 2011 City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) Women’s Tennis Player of the Year, continued her dominate play during the first month of the season.
During the month of September, Orkis posted a perfect 5-0 record at #1 singles, to go along with an unblemished 4-0 record at #1 doubles. She was also named the CUNYAC Player of the Week, for the week ending September 16th.
Orkis’ solid play at the top of the lineup led to wins over Polytechnic Institute of New York University, John Jay College of Criminal Justice, the City College of New York and Hunter College.
The match against Hunter was a rematch of the 2011 CUNYAC Championship Final, where the Hawks got the better of the Bulldogs, 5-1. During their regular season match-up back on September 29th, BC edged out Hunter, 5-4, to remain undefeated in conference play.
Orkis and the rest of the BC Women’s Tennis team will look to continue their strong play during the month of October, as the Bulldogs will look to repeat as CUNYAC Regular Season Champions and return to the conference championship final; this time bringing home the conference championship.
