Tennis Drops Exciting Opener To Purchase, 6-3

Brooklyn, NY---The BC Women's Tennis Team (0-1) started their season on Tuesday evening with high hopes under first year coach Ahmad Odetalla, however a talented Purchase (4-0) squad took a commanding 4-2 lead after singles play and then finished the job in doubles earning a 6-3 victory.

"Our girls played a solid game against a solid opponent," said Odetalla.  "That Purchase team is on their way to having a great season, and it was gratifying to know that we did not go down without a fight. Although we lost the match, we will look at what we did well and work on that in preparation for our next bout and try to get that first win of the season."

Senior captain Ruth Perez (EBC Bushwick / Brooklyn, NY) delighted a the large BC crowd that turned out for the match as she cruised to a 6-0, 6-2 win in #1 singles over Purchase's Erin Higgins (Glens Falls / Glens Falls, NY).

Diana Derks (Herlong / Frankfurt, Germany) was also able to win her singles match over Alyson Lopez (Edward R. Murrow / Brooklyn, NY), 6-4, 6-2.

In doubles, Nadine Alexander (Boys and Girls / Brooklyln, NY) and Amalea Sideris (St. Demitrios / Astoria, NY) won a hard fought match over Inna Karaseva (Midwood / Brooklyn, NY) and Tatyana de Muns (Onteora / Boiceville, NY), 8-6, to give the Brides their third victory and only doubles triumph.

Brooklyn will return to action on Thursday as they host Rutgers-Newark at 4:00 pm on the Roosevelt Courts.
