BC Women Run Past Medgar To Win Fourth Straight

Box Score

Brooklyn, NY---The Brooklyn College Women's Basketball Team (13-8, 7-3 CUNYAC) scored 49 first half points to ease their way to their fourth straight victory on Wednesday night, defeating Medgar Evers (7-13, 2-8 CUNYAC) 78-53.

The Bulldogs came out firing, taking a 15-5 lead at the 15 minute mark. The team had four steals in the first five minutes of the game, including two by Fances Lyons, starting them on the run. That lead was quickly extended to 18 with 10:53 left in the first half, again thanks to the defense. Brooklyn forced Medgar Evers into 12 turnovers and added another four steals to open the large margin.

After a 5-0 run by the Cougars, the Bulldogs struck back. Frances Lyons started the run off with a jumper, which was quickly followed by an Ariel Smith steal and a Priscilla Ramirez three with just over six minutes remaining in the half. This momentum would push Brooklyn towards a 26 point halftime lead, with a score of 49-23.

In the second half, the Bulldogs would extend the lead to 37 at the nine minute mark. From here, the bench would get significant playing time. But, the stout Bulldog defense would not let up, as the Cougars never got the deficit below 22, and Brooklyn went on to win by 25, at 78-53.

Priscilla Ramirez (FDR / Brooklyn, NY) was the games leading scorer, notching 20 points in 22 minutes of action.

Frances Lyons (James Madison / Brooklyn, NY) and Elisha Raiford (Long Island City / William C. Bryant) each dropped 15 points a piece in limited play as well.

The Bulldogs will return home on Saturday, when they will host City Tech at 12:30 in the first half of a doubleheader at the West Quad Gymnasium.
