Bulldogs & Cougars Claw Their Way To 2-2 Tie

Box Score

Brooklyn, NY---The Brooklyn College Men's Soccer Team ( 2-5-2, 1-2-1 CUNYAC) got a Miguel Veliz-Fitz (FDR / Brooklyn, NY) second half goal to tie Medgar Evers College (4-5-2, 0-2-2 CUNYAC) at two.  The score would be the final goal of the game as the two teams played an even 110 minutes in the conference showdown on Wednesday afternoon.

The Bulldogs struck first in the game's opening half of play as Ruslan Alabashev (Neshaminy / Feasterville, PA) took an Igor Kozlov (Elite / Netherlands, Amsterdam) pass and found the back of the net to give his team a 1-0 advantage.

The Cougars struck back a few minutes before the break, as the conference's reigning Rookie of the Year, Kyle Stephen (Riverview / Brooklyn, NY) fed Sherwin Henry (West Demarara / Brooklyn, NY) for the equalizer, sending the game tied at the halfway mark, 1-1.

Medgar Evers was not done scoring as they opened the second half with a number of solid chances on goal, but were unsuccessful until Daniel Joseph (Trinity / Brooklyn, NY) took a cross from Najeeb Bandaogo  (George Wingate / Brooklyn, NY) and buried it in the corner of the net.

Medgar seemingly had the game in hand as they controlled the ball and tempo for much of the second half, however Brooklyn would half one last surge left in them and the smallest man on the field, Veliz-Fitz, who got a pass from Jonathan Whitehead (Xaverian / Brooklyn, NY), controlled it and launched it into the upper right corner of the goal, tying the game at two.

The game remained tied at the end of regulation, forcing overtime, however neither Brooklyn or Medgar could muster up a score in the two overtime periods, ending the game in a 2-2 tie.

Brooklyn goalkeeper Stamatis Boundouris (Xaverian / Brooklyn, NY) played an outstanding game, recording 16 saves while playing the entire 110 minutes.

Brooklyn will host Lehman College on Saturday, October 2nd, at Kingsborough Community College, in what will be a huge battle for positioning in the CUNYAC standings.  Lehman is currently in 3rd place with 7 points, while Brooklyn stands in 7th place with 4 points.
