Bronxville, NY --- The Brooklyn College Men's Tennis team extended its winning streak to three straight on Monday evening in Bronxville, NY, as the Bulldogs edged past the Gryphons of Sarah Lawrence College, 6-3. With the win, the Bulldogs improve to 3-9 overall on the season.
The duo of
Matthew Micharlsen and
Raymond Chan continued their solid play at #1 doubles defeating their opponents, Nathan Currier and Sterling Wong, by a score of 8-5. Micharlsen and Chan are now 3-0 at #1 doubles this season.
Likewise,
Anthony Sideris and
Cheyne Tribbey also improved to 3-0 on the year at #3 doubles, as the tandem got the better of Vaughn Bergen and Luke Hammerman, 8-5, as BC would take two of the three doubles flights.
Philip Naess and Nathan Thompson took home the win at #2 doubles for Sarah Lawrence.
In singles play, Micharlsen, Chan and Sideris all continued to excel winning at #1, #2 and #5 singles, respectively. Micharlsen and Sideris were both victorious in straight sets, as Micharlsen downed Currier 6-4, 6-4, while Sideris handled Sahil Bhalla, 6-2, 6-2.
After dropping a tough first set 7-6 (7-3) to Wong, Chan battled back to win the second set, 6-3, forcing a third set super tie breaker. In the end, Chan would outlast Wong to finish off his come-from-behind victory, as he took the third set, 10-1.
Mubashir Shabil Billah capped off the night for BC, as he defeated Hugh Thornhill at #6 singles, 6-0, 6-2, to improve to 3-1 on the season.
Aman Banerji and Naess picked up wins at #3 and #4 singles, respectively, for the Gryphons, as Brooklyn would take four of the six singles flights to go on to the 6-3 match win.
Brooklyn is back in action on Wednesday, April 27th, as the Bulldogs will play host to the Bears of Saint Joseph's College – Brooklyn in their regular season finale. Seniors
Arvind Badhey, Chan,
Qing Hui Tan and
Vesna Tan will be honored prior to the start of the match as part of Senior Day festivities.
