Kelly McGowan Named BC Cheerleader of the Month - February

The Brooklyn College Cheerleading coaching staff would like to congratulate Kelly McGowan as cheerleader of the month for February.

Kelly's major is communication and she dreams to one day manage public relations for a record label upon graduation. Kelly has been cheering since the prime age of 13. She comes to BC from Stella Maris High School, where she participated in other high school sports including volleyball and of course cheerleading. During her junior year of high school, she was awarded cheer captain and held her title as a senior. Graduating from Stella Maris, Kelly says she knew she always wanted to attend Brooklyn College. She anticipated joining the Brooklyn College Cheerleading squad since she was in high school because her former cheerleading coach, who was also a BC Cheerleader. Kelly has currently been cheering at Brooklyn College for three years and works in Manhattan as a fashion intern part time.

“We have seen her grow as an individual,” said Head Coach Tonika Simmons. “She is a multi-talented athlete capable of moving from various positions in a moments notice. Kelly has exceeded the coaches' expectations and has come this year full throttle with unlimited talent and dedication. Always recognizing when somebody is struggling and shouting them out and giving positive criticism, Kelly doesn't take defeat as an option. Kelly is front and center and ready to show off her skills, talents, and long lasting friendship that she has gained from Brooklyn College Cheerleading. The sky is the limit for Kelly and we know that all the blood, sweat and tears that she leaves on the floor with her dedication to her family squad mates on the Brooklyn College Cheerleading squad is something that she will utilize and cherish long after leaving Brooklyn College. Again we would like to congratulate Kelly McGowan for outstanding participation on the squad and recognized her as February Cheerleader of the Month.”
