Brooklyn, NY --- The Brooklyn College Men's Tennis team concluded its 2012 regular season with a 7-2 victory over City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) rival Lehman College earlier today at the Roosevelt Courts on the BC campus.
The Bulldogs conclude the regular season with a 4-11 overall record and a 2-5 mark in the CUNYAC; while the Lightning finish at 4-9 overall and 2-5 in conference play as well.
BC began the match with a 4-0 advantage, as the Lightning were forced to default all three doubles matches due to their late arrival, as well as #6 singles due to only having five players.
Leading the way for the Bulldogs were
Matthew Micharlsen,
Deshi Wu and
Marvin Gill, who picked up wins at #1, #4 and #5 singles, respectively. Micharlsen won 6-4, 6-2, while Wu was victorious 6-0, 6-0 and Gill triumphed 6-1, 6-3.
Lehman's Cesar Andrade (6-2, 6-1) and Ben Cirilo (6-2, 6-2) took home the pair of wins for the Lightning at #2 and #3 singles, respectively.
“I'm proud of the way we came out and competed today,” said Head Coach
Ahmad Odetalla. “Hopefully our current three-match winning streak will carry over to the postseason, as we prepare for the CUNYAC Championships.”
The Brooklyn win now creates a three-way tie for the #5 seed in the upcoming CUNYAC Championships with BC, Lehman and York College, as all three schools hold an identical 2-5 league record.
The championships will begin on Wednesday, April 25th with the Quarterfinals Round matchups. Continue to check
