Staten Island, NY --- The Brooklyn College Men's Tennis team had its 2012 season ended in the quarterfinals round of the City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) Championships, as the #5 Bulldogs fell to the #4 College of Staten Island Dolphins, 5-2, earlier today at the CSI Tennis Complex.
BC ends their season with a 4-12 overall record, while CSI moves to 7-9 overall and advances to the semifinals round this Sunday against #1 seed Baruch College.
CSI would take an early 2-1 lead after capturing victories at the #1 and #2 doubles flights. Nicholas Zikos and Vladislay Romanov edged out
Matthew Micharlsen and
Anthony Chan, 8-6, at #1 doubles, while Daniel Ursomanno and Riad Hamai downed
Robin Varughese and
Cheyne Tribbey, 8-4, at #2 doubles.
The Bulldogs picked up a win at #3 doubles, as
Michael Martone and
Anthony Sideris got the best of Dmitriy Vituk and Austin Kapentanakis, 8-6.
Moving to singles play, the Dolphins would earn victories at the #1, #2 and #6 positions to reach the magic number of five wins to end the match.
Tribbey picked up a win at #4 singles defeating Romanov, 6-1, 6-1.
The #3 and #5 singles matches would go unfinished.
“I am really proud of the way we battled today against CSI,” said head coach
Ahmad Odetalla. “I thought the matches were very competitve, but unfortunatley we came out on the short end.”
Brooklyn will look to come back stronger in 2013, as the Bulldogs are set to return nine of their 11 players from this season.
