Brooklyn, NY --- The Brooklyn College Men's Tennis team dropped a tough luck match earlier today, as the Cardinals of York College edged out the Bulldogs, 5-4, in a City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) tilt at the Roosevelt Courts on the campus of Brooklyn College.
With the loss, BC falls to 1-6 overall on the season and 0-4 in the CUNYAC; while York improves to 1-4 overall on the year and 1-2 in conference play.
The Bulldogs would take an early 2-1 advantage after doubles, as the tandem of
Anthony Chan and
Cheyne Tribbey defeated the duo of Erick Giron and Iheanyi Agbor, 8-6, at #2 doubles; while the pairing of
Marvin Gill and
Anthony Sideris got past the team of Timoteo Baltazar and Justin Mo, 8-1, at #3 doubles.
However, entering singles play, it would be the Cardinals who would turn the tables on the Bulldogs, as York would take four out of the six singles flights to edge out the 5-4 victory.
Tribbey continued his strong play from doubles to singles, as he defeated his opponent Baltazar, 6-0, 6-1, at #5 singles.
Deshi Wu took home the other BC singles win, as he downed Mo, 6-1, 6-1, at #6 singles.
Chan and
Michael Martone each played valiantly in their respective matches; however, each would come out on the short end of three-set losses.
After dropping his first set at #2 singles, 6-4, Chan battled back to take the second set 6-2 to force a third decisive set. In the end, his opponent Gary Reynoso would take the final set, 6-2, to win the match.
Similarly, Martone also dropped his first set, 6-4, at #3 singles, but he would not go down easy, coming back to force a third set following his 6-2 second set win. However, Martone would also drop a three-set heartbreaker, as Erick Giron would take the third set, 6-4.
Brooklyn will look to rebound from this loss and get back in the win column on Thursday, April 5th, as the Bulldogs will welcome the Bloodhounds of John Jay College of Criminal Justice for another CUNYAC match. The match is scheduled for a 4:00 pm start at the Roosevelt Courts.
