Brooklyn, NY --- The Brooklyn College Men's Tennis team suffered an 8-1 loss against the Bloodhounds of John Jay College of Criminal Justice earlier today in a City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) match held at the Roosevelt Courts on the BC campus.
The day began with doubles play, as the Bloodhounds would take a 2-1 advantage after coming out victorious at #2 and #3 doubles with 8-1 and 8-4 wins, respectively.
Brooklyn's tandem of
Matthew Micharlsen and
Anthony Chan took home what would be the lone BC win of the day at #1 doubles, as the pair edged off the John Jay team of Erkut Cakmak and Stephen Walz in a thrilling match, 9-8 (7-1).
Heading into singles play up 2-1, John Jay would take all six flights en route to their 8-1 win. The Bloodhounds sweep through #1, #4 and #5 singles with relative ease; however, the visitors would have to battle in the #2, #3 and #6 flights.
Playing at #2 singles, Andreas Pantaloukas defeated Chan 7-6 (7-5), 6-1. #3 and #6 singles would be the matches of the day, as both flights went to a third set.
After taking his first set, 6-4, at #3 singles,
Michael Martone would be unable to close out his opponent, Luis Chirinos, as Chirinos came back to take the match winning the second and third set, 6-2, 6-2.
Similarly,
Deshi Wu would be unable to put away his opponent, Frantisek Demek, at #6 singles. After taking the first set 6-3, Wu dropped the next two sets, 6-1, 6-3.
Brooklyn will return to the courts this Saturday, April 7th, as the Bulldogs will welcome Sarah Lawrence College to the Roosevelt Courts for a non-conference tilt.
