Men's Soccer Impresses In Home Opener With 5-1 Win Over St. Joes

Box Score Brooklyn, NY---The Brooklyn College Men's Soccer Team saw five players score goals as the team cruised to a 5-1 win in their first home game of 2012 on Thursday night, defeating borough rival St. Joseph's.  The game was the team's first on the all-new Brooklyn College athletic field.

Coach Rawle Hensford knew this was a special win for the program, whose team had not played a game on campus since October 23, 2004, saying, "I would like to thank the many fans who came out to support us in our first home game."

With the win, Brooklyn brought their season record to 2-3, ending a two-game losing streak after dropping a pair at the Manhattanville Tournament last weekend.  For St. Joe's, the team fell to 0-1 after their first regular season action of the year.

The Bulldogs got on the board first as Peterson Petit Frere took a Patjim Gjonbalaj pass and found the net to put BC up early.

Shortly afterwards, the Bears pulled even as Raul Urshela got past Brooklyn keeper Stamatis Boundouris to tie the game at one.

The Bulldogs would quickly respond as Gjonbalaj once again assisted on a score, crossing the ball to Dedou Toure, who converted, giving Brooklyn a one goal advantage that lasted until the half.

The second period saw Brooklyn unable to convert on a number of scoring opportunities early, as Bears keeper Michael Miner kept his team in the game with a number of spectacular saves.

While Miner did his part, he could only keep Brooklyn off the board for so long as Dmitry Prokofyev finally penetrated the defense and found the back of the net to open up the lead to 3-1.

Alwyn Adams joined the party for BC shortly after, scoring the Bulldogs' fourth goal of the game, and quickly after, Chavel Harrison scored on an impressive shot to cap the day's scoring and give Brooklyn the 5-1 victory.

Coach Hensford was enamored with his team's effort, saying, "We played at a good tempo and were dynamic in attack, creating many chances.  I was very  happy with the team's performance."

Brooklyn will return to action on Monday as they head out on the road to take on Berkeley College in a game slated to start at 7:00 pm.
