Box Score New York, NY---The Brooklyn College Men's Soccer Team wrapped up their regular season on the road Wednesday, tying CCNY in a hard fought, 1-1 contest. The tie gives the Bulldogs an overall record of 9-6-1, and a 5-2-1 conference mark, as they head into the Quarterfinal Round of the CUNYAC Championships next Wednesday, October 30th. CCNY is not 6-8-2, 5-2-1 CUNYAC.
Brooklyn, who was playing without three starters who were sidelined due to injury, controlled much of the first-half tempo and were able to take an early 1-0 lead as
Fernand Grisales took a long cross from
Peterson Petit-Frere and found the net right before the half to send the Bulldogs into the break with an advantage.
The Beavers continued to battle and while they did not muster many second half chances, they finally broke through in the 72nd minute to tie the game at one on a Maximilian Mena goal. The score, which was assisted by Anthony Scarallo, was City's only shot on goal of the half, but it got past BC keeper
Kamil Ostrowski, tying the game.
The two teams, who end the regular season CUNYAC schedule tied in league play, battled for the remainder of regulation and two overtime periods, however neither could break through for the game winner and the contest finished in a draw.
Brooklyn College Head Coach
Rawle Hensford saw some tough play from both teams, saying, "City kept working and got the tying goal, but I'll credit our guys for not folding at that point and keeping them off the board for the reminder to earn the tie."
With this contest bringing the Bulldogs regular season to a close, Brooklyn will have to wait for the CUNYAC Championship Quarterfinal Round, a week from tonight, in order to get back on the pitch. While the matchups have not been finalized, Brooklyn has clinched a top four seed and therefore will host their opponent on the 30th. If Brooklyn advances, they will remain at home on Brooklyn College Field, as that is the site for the Semifinal and Final Rounds.
