Brooklyn, NY --- The Brooklyn College Men's Tennis team dropped its non-conference match against the Scarlet Raiders of Rutgers-Newark on Saturday afternoon at the Roosevelt Courts by a score of 7-2.
With the loss, BC drops to 0-9 overall on the season, while Rutgers-Newark moves to 2-6 overall on the year.
The visiting Scarlet Raiders took an early 3-0 advantage by sweeping all three doubles matches, by scores of 8-3, 8-2 and 8-5.
Rutgers-Newark would continue its solid play into singles action, as the Scarlet Raiders took four of the six singles flights en route to their 7-2 victory.
For Brooklyn,
Deshi Wu and
Andrew Au earned the two BC wins on the day at #2 and #6 singles, respectively.
Wu defeated Derence Tejero, 6-0, 6-1, while Au edged out Benjamin Lioue 6-4, 7-5.
The marathon match of the day came at #3 singles, between Brooklyn's
Marvin Gill and Rutgers-Newark's Rajan Mandania. After Gill took the opening set, 6-3, Mandania battled back to take a 6-0 win in the second set, forcing a third and decisive set. Coming in the final set, Mandania completed his come-from-behind victory with a 6-3 win.
The Bulldogs will return to the courts this Monday, April 15th, as Brooklyn will travel to the Bronx, NY to take on the Lightning of Lehman College in City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) action. The match is scheduled for a 3:30 pm start.
