Brooklyn, NY --- In City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) action, the Brooklyn College Men's Tennis team fell to the Dolphins of the College of Staten Island on Tuesday afternoon by a score of 7-2 at the Roosevelt Courts.
With the loss, the Bulldogs falter to 0-11 overall on the season and 0-6 in the CUNYAC; while the Dolphins improve to 9-5 overall on the year and conclude the season at 6-1 in conference play.
Prior to the start of the match, senior
Anthony Sideris was honored for all of his hard work and dedication to the BC Men's Tennis program over the past four seasons.
The visitors, CSI, jumped out to an early 3-0 lead by sweeping doubles action, taking all three flights by scores of 8-1, 8-3 and 8-0.
The Dolphins would use their momentum from doubles and continue their strong play into singles, by taking four of the six flights en route to their 7-2 victory.
For BC, Sideris and freshman
Andrew Au picked up the two wins on the day for the Bulldogs. Au took the #6 spot with relative ease 6-1, 6-1 over Dmitriy Vituk; while Sideris gutted out a hard fought three-set victory at the #5 position against Austin Kapetanakis.
After dropping the opening set 6-0, Sideris batted back to a take a 6-1 win in the second to force a third set tiebreaker. In the final set, Sideris would complete the come-back win on his Senior Day, 10-4.
The #4 singles match also featured a tightly contested three-set match, between Brooklyn's
Yeshen Shang and Staten Island's Ed Ruffe.
Ruffe would strike first taking the first set, 6-2, while Shang would even the match with a 6-3 win in the second. Playing a third set tiebreaker, Ruffe would eventually hold off Shang with a 10-3 win to capture the victory.
Brooklyn will return to the courts this Thursday, April 18th, as the Bulldogs will take on borough foe St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn).
