Men’s Tennis Defeats St. Joseph’s (Brooklyn) in Regular Season Finale

Brooklyn, NY --- Coming in its 2013 regular season finale, the Brooklyn College Men's Tennis team snapped its 12-game losing streak on Monday afternoon at the Roosevelt Courts on the BC campus, as the Bulldogs defeated the Bears of St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) by a score of 9-0.

Brooklyn finishes the regular season with a 1-12 record, while St. Joseph's (Brooklyn) drops to 0-6 overall on the year.

The Bulldogs jumped out to an early 3-0 advantage by sweeping doubles play. The BC duo of Davis Zabiyaka and Marvin Gill took the win at #1 doubles by a score of 8-3, while the Bulldogs tandem of Deshi Wu and Andrew Au was victorious 8-4 at #2 doubles. The Brooklyn pair of Anthony Sideris and Tashfeen Afzal completed the doubles sweep with an 8-1 win at #3 doubles.

BC continued its solid play into singles action, as Wu (6-0, 6-0), Gill (6-3, 6-1), Afzal (6-3, 6-0), Sideris (6-1, 6-4), Au (6-2, 6-0) and Dong Guan (6-1, 6-0) all took home wins in their respective flights to complete the 9-0 sweep over the Bears.

With the regular season now concluded, the Bulldogs will turn their attention towards the City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) Championships, which begin this Friday, April 26th, with the quarterfinals round. Brooklyn, the #8 seed, will take on top seed Baruch College. The match is scheduled for a 3:30 pm start at the USTA National Tennis Center in Flushing, NY.
