Men’s Soccer Blanks York, 4-0, in CUNYAC Opener

Box Score Brooklyn, NY --- The Brooklyn College Men's Soccer team shutout the Cardinals of York College, 4-0, in City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) action on Saturday afternoon at Aviator Field in Brooklyn.

With the win, the Bulldogs move their overall record to an even 3-3 on the year and 1-0 in the CUNYAC; while the Cardinals fall to 2-4 overall and 0-1 in conference play.

The first half featured a tight contest, as BC held a 9-4 advantage in shots. Brooklyn Sophomore Oleg Tykhonravov would finally break through the York defense, as he notched his second goal of the season in the 28th minute to put the Bulldogs ahead, 1-0. Tykhonravov took advantage of a loose ball in the box, as senior Taras Frankivskyy assisted on the play.

The score would remain 1-0 heading into the halftime break.

With the Bulldogs holding on to a slim one goal lead, Brooklyn would increase its offensive attack, outshooting the Cardinals 13-5 in the second period. The increase scoring chances led to three second half goals, as BC would put the game away and close out a 4-0 victory.

Tykhonravov registered his second goal of the game (third of the season) in the 61st minute, while classmate Siarhei Auramenka took a cross in the box from senior Peter Vavalle to knock home his first career goal in a BC uniform in the 74th minute of action.

Freshman Gabriel Narvaez capped off the Brooklyn scoring with his first career goal in the 89th minute with senior Peterson Petit-Frere assisting on the score.

Senior goalkeeper Stamatis Boundouris registered four saves in net, playing all 90 minutes, en route to his second shutout of the season.

For York, Massamba Drame played the first 27:07 in goal, allowing a goal, while Shady Mohamed finished the final 62:53, allowing three goals and tallying eight saves.

"We created a lot, but we missed chances to win the game before halftime," said Head Coach Rawle Hensford. "1-0 is always a dangerous score line. A single goal would have given York hope in mounting a comeback. However, we remained strong physically and dug deep to put York away in the second half."

Brooklyn returns to action this Monday, September 23rd, as the Bulldogs will host the Knights of Berkeley College (NY). The match is scheduled for 6:00 pm at BC Field.
