Box Score 2 Staten Island, NY --- The Brooklyn College Women's Volleyball team (9-18 overall / 4-3 CUNYAC) split a pair of City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) matches on Monday afternoon at the CUNYAC Multi-Match held at the College of Staten Island.
The Bulldogs defeated the Bloodhounds of John Jay College of Criminal Justice in straight sets, 3-0 (25-20, 25-20, 25-18) in their first match of the day, before concluding the multi-match with a thrilling five-set loss to the Beavers of The City College of New York (CCNY), 3-2 (11-25, 25-17, 25-15, 18-25, 17-15).
Against John Jay, Brooklyn was led by sophomore
Francesca LoCascio's six kills (.455), to go with two blocks, an ace and five digs. Junior
Sasha Roopchand added five kills, while freshman
Jessica Yin tallied 14 assists and three aces. Freshman
Monineath Pen chipped in on the defensive side with 13 digs.
The Bloodhounds were led by Rachel Eng's match-high 12 kills. Katherine Bonilla added 14 assists, while Latanya Buckham contributed with six digs.
In the second match against the Beavers, BC was led by junior
Yelizaveta Malysheva's 14 kills (.303). LoCascio added 10 kills (.588), while Yin continued to pace the offense with 37 assists. Pen again was solid on defense with 17 digs.
CCNY's Leticia Marotti recorded an impressive double-double with 21 kills and 17 digs, while Kathlen Dos Santos set up the offense with 37 assists. Saye-Chantl Joseph just missed out on a double-double with 11 kills and nine digs, while Veralucia Quispe finished the day with 10 digs.
Brooklyn will return to action on Wednesday, October 15th, as the Bulldogs will welcome the Mariners of US Merchant Marine Academy to the West Quad Center. The non-conference match is scheduled for a 6:30 pm start.
