Men's Tennis Opens Season With 6-3 Win Over John Jay

Box Score

Brooklyn, NY---The Brooklyn College Men's Tennis Team opened up the season at home on Friday as defeated CUNYAC rival John Jay, 6-3, at the Roosevelt Courts.

The Bulldogs started play strong as they took two of three doubles matches, and then continued to impress during singles play, as they took four of six decisions.

Marvin Gill and Trevaughn Daley teamed up to cruise by Marco Guzman and Zag Kimpolo, 8-0 in their #3 doubles match.

Elliot Haddad and Brandon Green battled to victory in #1 doubles, taking an 8-6 decision over Yevgeny Reminnik and Gregory Gon.

The win was the first collegiate victory for each.

After Daley (#5) and Gill (#6) earned quick straight set wins for Brooklyn, Haddad clinched the team victory with a 6-4, 6-1 decision over Reminnik in their #1 singles match.

Charles Stevens won BC's sixth match, earning a 6-3, 6-2 win over Gon at #2 singles.

The Bloodhounds defeated Brooklyn a year ago by a 9-0 score, and therefore Coach Odetalla is hoping today's win is a sign his squad is much improved and can compete among the top half of the conference in 2014.

"It was important for us to start our season on the right foot," said Coach Odetalla. "I absolutely loved the energy the guys came out with, and although we can still improve in some areas, I am very pleased with today's results."

BC will be back at home on Tuesday when they take on another league foe, City College, at 4 pm.
