Men's Tennis Drops Match To Baruch 7-2

Brooklyn, NY---The Brooklyn College Men's Tennis Team fell to 1-1 on the season both overall and in conference play, as they fell to Baruch on Tuesday afternoon, 7-2. Baruch, the defending CUNYAC champion, improves to 5-0, 2-0 CUNYAC on the season.

The Bearcats came out strong in doubles, taking the first two doubles matches, 8-2 (#1) and 8-1 (#2). 

The Bulldogs got a big effort from Trevaughn Daley and Robin Varughese in #3 doubles, as the duo came up with commanding 8-2 win over Ariel Hakimi and Michael Markin. 

Baruch remained strong in singles, taking the first five flights in straight sets.

Brooklyn's Elliot Haddad fell to Jonathan Salegean in their #1 singles match, 7-5, 6-3, however battled throughout and played Salegean to many deuces throughout the match.

Charles Stevens also fought hard in defeat at #2 singles, losting 6-4, 6-3, but playing some closely contested games throughout.

Gabriel Pariente earned the lone singles win for BC, knocking off Markin at #6 singles, 7-5, 5-7, (10-4), in the day's most closely contested match. It was Pariente's first collegiate win.

"I am proud of how we competed today, however we would've liked a different outcome," said Coach Ahmad Odetalla of his team's performance. "I'm glad we got to see one of the top team's in our league early in the season.  It will prepare our guys for the level of play to expect in the postseason."

The Bulldogs will return to action tomorrow in a non-conference match against borough foe, NYU Poly.  The action will begin at 4 pm at the Roosevelt Courts.
