Men’s Tennis Blanks Lehman, 9-0

Brooklyn, NY --- The Brooklyn College Men's Tennis team swept the Lightning of Lehman College, 9-0, in a City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) match on Saturday afternoon at the Roosevelt Courts.

With the win, BC improves to an even 4-4 overall on the season and 3-2 in the CUNYAC; while Lehman drops to 1-7 overall on the year and 0-5 in conference play.

Beginning the match with doubles action, the Bulldogs jumped out an early 3-0 lead, as the home team took all three doubles flights. The tandem of Charles Stevens and Stanley Purcell won their #1 doubles match, 8-5; while the pairing of Marvin Gill and Trevaughn Daley earned an 8-3 win at #2 doubles. The duo of Robin Varughese and Deshi Wu completed the doubles sweep cruising to an 8-0 victory at #3 doubles.

Moving to singles play, Stevens (6-1, 6-1), Purcell (6-1, 6-1) and Brandon Green (6-0, 6-0) easily won their #1, #2 and #5 singles matches, respectively. Daley earned a hard fought, 6-3, 7-6 (7-3) win at #4 singles, while Gabriel Pariente easily took his first set, 6-1, before edging out a 7-5 win in the second set to take home #6 singles.

The match of the day came at #3 singles between Gill and Gene Nakagaki. Gill took the first set, 6-4, while Nakagaki took the second set, 6-2, to force a third set super tiebreaker. In the end, Gill would outlast Nakagaki, 14-12, to take the match and complete the sweep.

Brooklyn returns to the courts this Tuesday, April 15th, as the Bulldogs will travel up to Annandale-on-Hudson, NY to take on the Raptors of Bard College in a non-conference match. The match is scheduled for a 6:00 pm start time.
