Box ScoreBrooklyn, NY --- The Brooklyn College Men's Tennis team defeated the Cardinals of York College by a score of 7-2 on Wednesday afternoon at the Roosevelt Courts in a City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) match.
With the win, the Bulldogs improve to an even 5-5 on the season and 4-2 in the CUNYAC. The win guarantees Brooklyn at least the #4 seed and home court advantage for the quarterfinals round of the upcoming conference championships, which will be held on Friday, April 25th. York falls to 4-6 overall on the year and 1-3 in conference play.
BC took an early 3-0 lead as the Bulldogs swept doubles play. The team of
Charles Stevens and
Stanley Purcell won at #1 doubles, 8-6; while the tandem of
Marvin Gill and
Trevaughn Daley also won by a score of 8-6 at #2 doubles. The duo of
Robin Varughese and
Brandon Green cruised to an 8-0 win at #3 doubles.
Moving onto singles play, Stevens (6-2, 6-1), Purcell (6-3, 6-2), Daley (6-1, 6-0) and Green (6-0, 6-2) all won their respective singles flights at #1, #2, #4 and #5.
For York, Jay Pal came back to win at #3 singles, 4-6, 6-1, 1-0 (10-4) over Gill, while Elnathan Atwell downed
Asher Korycka, 7-6 (7-4), 6-1 at #6 singles.
Brooklyn will wrap up CUNYAC play tomorrow, Thursday, April 17th, as the Bulldogs will travel across the Verrazano to take on the Dolphins of the College of Staten Island. The match is scheduled for a 3:30 pm start time.
