Box ScoreBrooklyn, NY --- The Brooklyn College Men's Tennis match on Monday afternoon against Hunter College, which was postponed due to rain with the Hawks holding a 4-3 advantage over the Bulldogs, was resumed on Thursday with Hunter earning a hard fought, 5-4 win.
BC falls to 3-4 overall and 2-2 in the CUNYAC, while Hunter improves to 5-1 overall and remains undefeated in conference play at 4-0.
Beginning with doubles play, Hunter took a 2-1 edge with wins at #1 and #2 doubles with scores of 8-6 and 8-1, respectively. The pairing of Gonzalo Saez-Garcia and Carlos Saavedra won at #1 doubles, while the duo of Daniel Rabinovich and Matthew Balilo was victorious at #2 doubles. Brandon Green and
Marvin Gill accounted for the Bulldogs' lone win during doubles action.
The Hawks would take a quick 6-0, 6-0 win at #3 singles by Saavedra to go ahead 3-1; however the Bulldogs battled back to earn wins at #4 and #6 singles to tie the match at 3-3.
Robin Varughese was victorious at # 4 singles, 6-1, 6-2, while Gill took home the win at #6 singles, 6-1, 6-4.
Hunter would again pull ahead with a win at #1 singles, 6-1, 6-3, by Saez-Garcia to take the slim 4-3 edge.
With the #2 and #5 singles matches heading into decisive third sets, respectively, the match would be called due to rain.
#2 singles was resumed on Thursday, as Balilo defeated
Charles Stevens, 4-6, 6-4, 6-1, to clinch the fifth victory and thus the match win.
